Introducing AccuRx
The team at Murrayfield Medical Practice is delighted to announce we have partnered with AccuRx - an IT tool that will help us better communicate with our patients. We are doing this on a trial basis for the next 3 months.
You may notice that text messages from the practice start to come from "NHSNoReply". This is one part of the system that allows us to better communicate with our patients, so don't worry, it's not Spam. We will always sign off messages with "Murrayfield Medical Practice".
We will also start offering those patients that have consented to receive text messages the option to book appointments via their own personal link sent from the surgery team. This will hopefully reduce phone calls to and from the surgery for appointment booking and let patients book appointments in their own time, even in the middle of the night!
If you haven't already consented to text messaging, do so herr by checking your contact details are up to date and adding your consent- Consent for receiving text messages - Murrayfield Medical Practice
There will be a number of new features we will be testing over the next few months during this trial period, so please bear with us as the team get to grips with the new processes.
Increase in Spam calls
Recently there has been an increase in Spam phone calls from individuals or automated messages pretneding to be your GP practice, or to represent us. Some calls are asking for your personal details to be updated, others are trying to arrange house visits to sell you medical equiptment you don't need!
Please note, we will ALWAYS call you from the practice phone number - this will either come up as 0131 337 6151 on your mobile, or it may show as Murrayfield Medical Practice - some phone provides recognise business numbers. We do not withhold our number.
We will not call you from a mobile phone - so check before you answer.
We will ALWAYS say who is calling and say what practice we are calling from - if someone asks what practice you are at, it's probably a scam. If someone says they work for your practice and can't say where that practice is, it's probably a scam. Don't give out any information unless you know who you are talking to.
If you aren't sure, just politeley ask for their name, hang up, and call the practice back on our normal phone number to check. We won't be offended even if it is really us trying to get hold of you!
Protected Learning Time 2025
The practice is planning on re-introducing protected learning time for the whole practice team. This happened regularly before the COVID-19 Pandemic with the surgery being closed one morning or afternoon a month. We plan to have these learning sessions again quarterly in 2025.
IF you need help in an emergency, you can still contact the practice on the emergency line - just listen to the phone message for instructions.
The first session will be from 9am on Thursday 23rd January 2025 until 1:30pm. The surgery will be taking calls that day from 8am until 9am, then re-open again at 1:30pm. Please only contact us outwith these hours in an emergency. Further dates will be advertised in due course on the website on our contact us page - Contact us - Murrayfield Medical Practice
Thank you.
Staff announcement
I am sad to let our patients know that Dr Dougal Binnie will be leaving the practice at the end of December. He is moving on to a post heading up the new Maybury GP surgery in the west of Edinburgh. All of us at Murrayfield want to thank him for his time with the practice and wish him the best in his new role.
Along with that news, we are taking on Dr Grigory Pankin from early January as his replacement. Dr Pankin comes with a wealth of experience from many Lothian practices and we are looking forward to him becoming part of the team. Dr Pankin will work all day Thursdays and Fridays.
Dr Caroline Bennett will beginning working a Wednesday all day after Dr Binnie leaves and will therefore be in for 3 days a week
We also have recent changes in our reception team, with Tracey joining our Medical Administrators at the start of November. She is settling in well with the team and I am sure will be a fantastic asset to our patients and our practice.
Private Prescriptions
There has been a large increase to the practice in recent months with patients asking for medications to be prescribed following consultation with a private provider.
Please note, that all GPs in North West Edinburgh will not be providing private medication for any NEW patients with private providers. This applies to Adults and Children.
This does not affect existing prescribing arrangements for those who already receive medication from us. Should you wish to receive your medication on the NHS, you must be seen by the GP or the appropriate NHS specialist. Please make a routine appointment to arrange a referal.
Local Bank Holiday Closure
The Practice will be closed on Monday 16th September 2024 for the local summer bank holiday. We will re-open at 8am on Tuesday 17th September
New Sick Line Extension form
We now have a new form for patients you can complete at a time to suit you, if you need an extention to your exisitng sick line. Completing this form can often save up to 3 phone calls - the first one by you to the practice, the return one from the reception team to book a call with the GP who wants to speak to you, and then waiting for the appointment phone call itself!
Completing this form with details of a returning to work plan, where appropriate, allows the GP to conisder your request in detail without needing to speak to you directly, making it more efficient for everyone!
We hope this new service is of benefit to our patients as we work to improve our digital offering.

Carers Week
The 10th to 16th June is National Carers Week. Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

Taylor Swift Concert
This weekend, Friday 7th to Sunday 9th May, Taylor Swift is performing her Eras tour at Murrayfield National Stadium.
There are a large number of road closures around the stadium, which will impact on access to the medical practice. Please make allowances to arrive at the surgery in good time taking account of these road closures.
Full details of the closures can be found here on the council website. Edinburgh gets Taylored – The City of Edinburgh Council
Welcome to our new website
Our new wesbite is currently under construction, and should hopefully be easier to navigate around, and provide our patients with the information they need for their on going healthcare. If you have any suggestions for anything on the site, please let the practice manager know.
We now have a translation option within the website for many languages, which is in the main menu next to the Home page link.
Watch this space for more content coming soon.
